OUTSTANDING, inspirational and committed: just three words that can be used to describe three pupils at Parrenthorn High School.
And to reward their qualities, the students have been presented with a special award: the Diana, Princess of Wales, Memorial Award.
The national award is presented to a select number pupils each year who have shown they have enhanced the school or community in which the young people live.
And Laura Pace, Christopher Court and Lauren Colbeck are worthy candidates for their work in establishing a student council at the Heywood Road school.
Head of History and Citizenship at Parrenthorn, Mr Andy Goodlad, said: "The school council has been running for a number of years but it had died off recently. Laura, Christopher and Lauren attended a training day to learn how to reconstitute the school council and it has been thriving since September."
The trio built up the student body to involve all forms in the school and it now boasts 50 members.
The group debates a wide range of issues that affects pupils and together they are planning to raise funds for a new student planner, so pupils can plan their homework and class projects in a neat book.
The three award recipients have also successfully run a school tuck shop and contributed to the healthy school strategy.
Mr Goodlad added: "We are very proud of Laura, Christopher and Lauren and to show that, we held a presentation ceremony last week so they could receive their awards in front of the school."
