A FIRM of solicitors has been removed from a blacklist set up by the Department of Trade and Industry in the wake of double-charging claims.

Cunningham Turner's was included on the original list after the Blackburn company had not responded to a letter which asked if they charged miners for handling successful claims.

But the DTI has accepted the firm had done nothing wrong after being contacted by the company.

Thousands of miners and their families are currently claiming compensation from the Government for injuries and illness sustained during years in the pits.

There had been claims some solicitors were claiming money from the Government to process the claims and charging miners as well.

A total of 10 firms have been removed from the list.

A spokesman for the DTI said: "A small number of firms have now confirmed that they do not charge miners for handling successful claims."
