PUPILS at Millwood Primary can revel in new smells, sights and sounds thanks to students from Holy Cross College.
The college's health and social care department raised £160 with a series of events including a music quiz.
They used the proceeds to create a sensory garden at the Fletcher Fold Road school, and organised painting and gardening teams to carry out the work.
Students made sure that the area was packed with plants and items to stimulate the senses, including chimes, a mural, bird houses, ribbon banners and textured fragrant flowers.
The work will complement recently installed playground facilities for nursery youngsters and those with physical disabilities.
College programme leader Janet Macfarlane said: "Before we did the work there was just a dull brick wall.
"What we hope we have provided is a stimulating yet peaceful area of the playground which is a bit more lively and interactive."
Head teacher Mr Bernard Emblem said: "This has really brightened things up and has finished off the work that we have done with the playground.
"We had lots of play equipment but it was a little bit bare, and we are planning to turn the area into a story corner."
