A BREAST care appeal at Burnley General Hospital has received a boost from a patient using the service.

Sharon Sproule, of Rosegrove has, with the help of friends and local businesses, raised almost £700 towards an ultrasound machine for the Breast Care Clinic.

The money was raised at a social evening and raffle at the Railway Club, Rosegrove. Sharon has been receiving treatment at the unit and wanted to help staff raise funds to further improve care for patients.

The ultrasound machine, which costs £11,000, will speed up the process of diagnosis.

Sharon said: "I wanted to do something to help the unit because the treatment I have received there has been marvellous.

"You get seen immediately and the staff there give you lots of support."

David Sandilands, consultant surgeon, who received the cheque from Sharon and her sister Maureen, said: " I would like to give a big thank you to Sharon, Maureen and all the people who contributed to this worthwhile cause."

If anyone has any more ideas or wishes to help the fund they can contact the unit on 01282 474779.
