DOUGIE Lampkin's challenge for the Spanish Outdoor Trials Championship has moved up a gear after finishing second in Osuna.
Two mistakes prevented the Sandifords of Burnley rider from taking overall victory in the third round of the series, despite leading at the end of the first lap.
On an event that proved very easy overall for the top riders, Lampkin picked up a five-mark penalty on section 14 then did the same again late in the competition to hand the win to Spaniard Adam Raga.
"I'm disappointed, but not downhearted," he said.
"This was a typical easy trial where it is impossible to recover from a single mistake. And I made an inexcusable one on the first lap which cost me the win."
Competing over dry boulders in red-hot conditions gave the trial a typically Spanish feel, with riders completing two laps of 15 sections in five-and-a-half hours.
The fourth round of the Spanish Championship takes place on May 16 in Bayona.
