AS THE Tories swept to power on a wave of victory in the marginal constituencies, North East Lancashire's Labour leaders consoled themselves with victory against the tide in Blackburn and Accrington.
Jack Straw, the 22-year-old television researcher, romped home with a comfortable 5,490 majority over Conservative candidate Ian McGaw.
