POLICE in Clitheroe say a crackdown on yobs who were hurling rocks from the town's castle down a 30ft embankment looks to have been a success.
The Lancashire Evening Telegraph revealed last week how mobile CCTV cameras were being trained on to the castle, and plain clothed officers deployed into its grounds, after the vandalism was reported to the police.
Vandals had been picking off parts of the castle walls, as well as rocks from flower beds, and sending them crashing down the embankment the castle is built on and into the path of unsuspecting drivers and pedestrians in the streets below.
Police and council bosses condemned the action as 'life-threatening' and 'moronic'.
Since then, Insp Bob Ford, of Clitheroe Police, says the youngsters have stayed away.
He said: "We are keeping an eye on the situation there and officers will be regularly patrolling the grounds to make sure there are no more problems like this."
