A PETITION will be presented to councillors next week in an attempt to get them to upgrade a children's playground.
Frank Allanson has collected signatures from residents to highlight the shortage of play facilities for young people in Nelson. He is asking for the play area at the top of Vernon Street, Walverden, to be upgraded.
And his campaign has won the support of Labour Councillor George Adam, who will put forward the proposal when the Nelson Committee meet on Monday.
Coun Adam said he would be asking councillors to support a package to upgrade and replace some of the worn-out equipment.
He said: "Walverden Ward has a shortage of play facilities for youngsters and what we have should be in tiptop condition for maximum use by children."
