West Hull 30 Leigh Miners Rangers 10: LEIGH Miners' hopes of a National Conference Grand Final appearance were wrecked by a miserable first half on Humberside.

The damage was done in the first 40 minutes as Wests, superbly led by scrum half Johan Windley, romped into a 20-2 lead.

The Miners defence was under pressure from the first whistle and the opening try came after 12 minutes when Wayne Harris, Scott Fletcher and Loz Wildbore combined to put Chris Lee in at the corner.

The Miners hit back with an Alan Reddicliffe penalty but within 60 seconds Windley returned a drop out fromunder the Miners posts with interest as he rounded four men to score a try that Harris converted.

Windley set up another when he worked a runaround to get Mark Martinez over and on the stroke of half time the game was effectively over as Wildbore went in for a fourth West Hull try.

The Miners staged something of a revival when Dave Patterson blasted in for a 45th minute try and Reddicliffe added a conversion and a penalty.

But when Harris dummied two defenders and sent Stephenson in for another West's try, it was all over except for Harris landing two more penalties.
