GOLBORNE CC won the toss at Clifton and elected to bat on a good wicket.
The opening pair, Tyrer and Crompton put on 32 for the first wicket when Crompton fell to Wolstenholme for 19. Tyrer soon followed, caught by Garner off Holt for 20. Golborne never really recovered and wickets fell regularly, only Barry Greenwood with 35 making a significant contribution apart from the openers and Golborne were all out for 101.
For Clifton, Holt and Wolstenholme shared the wickets equally.
Clifton started like Golborne, losing Gardener to Golborne's professional Shah for 13, and the other opener Garner caught by Darbyshire off the bowling of Ross for 20.
But Golborne's total was never going to be enough and contributions from Hamilton (21), A. Griffiths 19 not out and Walsh 15 not out saw them home.
Shah was Golborne's best bowler with 2 for 40 off 9 overs.
Golborne second team captain Ian McMillan lost the toss and Golborne were asked to bat, a decision which looked to have rebounded on Clifton as the openers Mercer and McMillan shared a century opening stand before McMillan fell lbw to Birch for 51.
Mercer soon followed, stumped by Weir off the bowling of Birch for 59. Singleton was soon back in the pavilion, being lbw to Eccles for 2 and this brought Allison and Ashmead together and they began to put together a stand before Allison became the first of Cordin's victims for a fine 22. The other notable scorers for Golborne were Ashmead with 14 and the veteran Ormshaw 12 with O'Reilly being run out off the last ball of the innings leaving Golborne on 182 for 9.
Clifton's best bowler was Cordin with figures of 12 overs, 4 wickets, for 53 runs.
When Clifton began their reply, Robins was soon bowled by McMillan for 3 and this brought Royle and Turner together. Turner played on off Ormshaw, but Clifton had all the luck when the bails stayed on and the same player was dropped by O'Reilly. Royle made 53 before being bowled by McMillan with Turner eventually being bowled by Ormshaw. But the damage had been done and Jennings and Weir steered Clifton to victory.
