NEW exercise classes will be starting at Marl Pits Swimming Pool next week as part of a drive to encourage the over 55s to become more active.
As part of Rossendale Council's drive for healthier lifestyles, the pool will be introducing an extra musical exercise class on Monday mornings for beginners.
The session, which is designed to appeal to Rossendale's more senior citizens, will run on a trial basis until July 12, but could become a permanent fixture if there is sufficient demand.
Fitness instructor Colin Kerron, who already runs similar classes at Marl Pits on Wednesdays and Fridays, will now be putting the young at heart through their paces on Mondays as well.
Colin said: "The classes are quite gently paced and are about encouraging people to exercise regularly.
"There must be a lot of people out there who always meant to take up regular exercise but never quite found the time."
Session times are Mondays and Fridays 10am to 11am and Wednesdays 2.45pm to 3.45pm.
