SOLDIERS of the Queens' Lancashire Regiment will parade through Wigan Borough on the 60th anniversary of D Day.
Council Leader Lord Peter Smith said nowadays Army recruits from the Leigh area usually joined the Queens' regiment.
He said: "The Council recognises the contribution made by servicemen and women from the Borough both in the past and at present in maintaining the security of the country and in protecting our democratic traditions."
This week Wigan Council also passed a resolution recognising the contributions made to the reduction in offences by young people in the Borough from the Youth Offending Team, the Labour Government's Anti-Social behaviour legislation and the increased police numbers in the borough.
Lord Smith said: "We will continue to place the reduction of crime and anti-social behaviour at the top of the agenda."
