I SHAN'T be using bleach again after encountering a patient while hospital visiting.

A young dad of four had been using the cleaner at home when some entered a cut on his hand.

The result was that he had to have his index finger amputated after gangrene set in.

Believe it or not he was lucky -- he could have lost his whole arm which had turned black and was only saved by brilliant doctors.

One thing's for sure, he's pledged never to use the stuff again, and seeing the consequences has made me think twice.

It may have been a one in a million accident, but I thought bleach killed all germs not created them!

I was well impressed with Wigan's Royal Albert Edward Infirmary on a visit this week. It hasn't half changed since I was last there as a patient over 20 years ago.

It has been transformed from a cold, clinical Victorian hospital to a warm, well decorated, caring and comfortable haven for patients.
