CUP action was the order of the day, last week, and on Monday the Ashworth Cup set us under way by producing a couple of shock results.
Perhaps the biggest shock came when Brocks XI B who have been struggling to find any league form, produced a 144-127 winning scoreline over their own A team.
Second Division leaders, St Mary's B proved to be another pulling off a surprise in beating First Division opponents Elton Vale B 134-117.
Fishpool A, Elton Vale A and Wellington all progressed to the Quarter finals by an innings margin.
The final three sides to advance, were all from the First Division, but all were made to bat twice by Second Division opponents. Ramsbottom Ladies, Ainsworth A and Unsworth CC will however all be present for the second round.
Surprises abounded on Tuesday night as no fewer than four Division Four sides showed their Division Three opponents just how the game should be played! Cricketers and Radcliffe Boro A led the way with innings wins from Tottington A and Nuttall Ladies respectively. MSS travelled to Clarence Park and inflicted a surprise defeat upon ETF 163 SIS - 144. Perhaps the best performance of the night came from Fourth Division leaders, St Mary's C who came back, with the bacon, after their tie against Division Three leaders All Saints A (170-189 SIS) .
Bury East B are another from Division Four who have survived into the last eight, but Division Three do still have three representatives in Walshaw Ladies, Fishpool B and Tottington B.
Wednesday night's Abbott Cup was a little bit short on surprises, however, the youngsters of Elton Vale D did manage to topple higher division opponents with a 199-156 scoreline against MD Ladies.
Whitefield Ladies will be the only other Division Six side in the last eight after they came away from their game with Walshaw SC with a 162-180 win).
TNT and Burns Bowlers produced the closest game of the round with TNT just getting the nod for a first win of the season 201-194.
Tottington C and Radcliffe Boro B both had innings wins, whilst the other sides progressing were Exodus, Deardens and Walmersley Ladies.
In the night's Lomax Cup games, the closest tie came at Outwood Road where Swan Ladies B progressed at the expense of Westdene Ladies 172-153. Wren Ladies and Redvales Juniors both advanced to the semi-finals by innings margins.
In the final game Chesham Fold and Phoenix ran out of time and must battle it out again in the near future.
