LAST Saturday night I attended "Showdown" at King George's Hall -- a variety performance of dance, drama and singing, arranged by the Youth Inclusion Programme, and supported by a number of organisations.
All the performers were young people from the borough of Blackburn with Darwen and were aged between eight and 19, and were ably supported by Clitheroe Grammar School Swing Band.
I know the young people taking part had worked really hard for the past four months to put on this wonderful two-hour show.
All credit goes to the young people who had previously had no formal training. B between them they have obviously found a taste for performing and among them were some real stars.
The young people had obviously put a lot of themselves into the performance and their enthusiasm and enjoyment really showed through.
I know the whole audience thoroughly enjoyed the performance and congratulations must go to all those involved, in the organising, rehearsing, designing and performing. It really was a night that many of the young people, the organisers and the audience will all remember.
To those who can often only criticise today's young people, this is yet another example of just what young people can really do and achieve when given the opportunity, and these young people certainly took that opportunity and created something very special. If you missed this show make sure you don't miss next year's "Showdown 2005."
Well done to everybody and we are all looking forward to your next "Showdown."
