CHILDREN in East Bury who went on a "go slow" have been rewarded for their hard work.
Rachael Rusolo, Rebecca Butler, Nigel Duke and Jade Dutton won a competition to design road signs imposing a 20mph speed limit in their area.
The signs have been erected at all 18 entry points into the zone, and the new limit is now in operation.
Local councillors Trevor Holt, John Byrne and Mike Connolly presented the youngsters, all pupils of East Ward CP Primary School, with a £10 book token.
Kath Bond, chairman of East Ward Triangle Community Association said: "Traffic calming in East Ward has been a key concern for local residents and a steering group was formed to address the problems.
"We are delighted to see that our concerns have been listened to and positive action taken."
The improved safety measures follow a traffic study by consultants.
The first part of the proposals included the weight restriction in Parsonage Street, a pedestrian refuge island at the Parsonage Street/Wash Lane junction, traffic signal modifications and guard railing.
