BLACKBURN Rovers goalkeeper Peter Enckelman is ready to pull out all the stops in his bid to impress Graeme Souness.

The 26-year-old Finnish international will finally make his Rovers debut at Tottenham tomorrow - almost six months to the day since he first joined the club.

And although the former Aston Villa stopper admits there's little chance of him replacing Brad Friedel on a full-time basis, he's still relishing the chance to remind people what he can do in the Premiership.

"Competition for places is fierce in football, especially if you're a goalkeeper," said Enckelman.

"You're only competing for one position in the team and if you've got one hell of a goalie in front of you then you're not going to get many chances other than when he's injured or maybe suspended.

"Obviously, Brad has done very well for this club in the last two or three years, so I'm not going to start talking about making claims for the number one spot or anything like that because that would be silly.

"All you can do is your best when you get your chance and if you play well every time then someone's going to appreciate you."

Enckelman has had to wait patiently for an opportunity at Rovers, but then he's used to having to bide his time after encountering something similar at Villa, where he was number two to a string of top class keepers.

Nevertheless, the flying Finn has never had trouble motivating himself, even though he's sometimes gone months without a competitive game to look forward to.

"I've worked with some great goalies during my career," said Enckelman.

"I had a while with Mark Bosnich, David James, Peter Schmeichel and Thomas Sorensen, who came in at Villa at the start of the season.

"They're all great goalies and now I'm working with Brad who's another one.

"Hopefully, I've picked up a few things from them which should help me in my own career but I do this job because I love playing football.

"It's not hard going out doing something you enjoy every day.

"I enjoy going out there doing the warm up, catching the ball and diving about like a kid.

"It's a hobby as much as anything but it becomes a profession because of the surroundings."

Enckelman knows he's got a hard act to follow at White Hart Lane as Rovers aim to finish the season on a high.

Last week's 1-0 victory over Manchester United was Friedel's third successive clean sheet and Rovers' fourth straight victory.

That run has ensured the club will be playing Premiership football once again next season, which eases the pressure considerably.

But Enckelman and his team-mates still want maximum points from their remaining two games as they look to finish as high up the table as possible.

"We've won four on the trot and it would be nice to carry that on until the end of the season and finish unbeaten," said Enckelman.

"We're now mathematically safe but even before last week it felt like the pressure had been lifted.

"Now we can relax a bit in our last two games and hopefully play some good football."
