WHILE I welcome your front page coverage in last week's Guide "Stink on bin deal", I would like to fill in some gaps. The thrust of our contention was that there were two separate issues.
The first one was that of a weekly collection which the Conservatives believe is a health and safety issue, a basic service as there are more rodents in this country than people. The Labour chairman refused to address this after he had volunteered his option on the scheme.
The second was the recycling issue which all parties are committed to. In fact, the Conservatives believe it is a particularly bad example compared to other Conservative councils.
My colleagues can talk of nothing else on the doorstep but bins as it has come to typify how arrogant Labour has become in power that they will not even reconsider should the scheme fail. What is even more damaging is the fact that political parties are willing to say one thing in the paper and another on the doorstep. Are we really surprised that turnout is so low?
