MANY thanks to Audrey Harland for attempting to put my mind at ease by explaining what CND is really up to (Citizen Letters, April 22).

But contradicting everything I said and then stating the obvious says nothing and serves little purpose.

Of course, even the most non-politically-minded might complain about the 'use of nuclear and all other weapons of mass destruction' if they were to be used against Britain and her allies.

But the out-dated, anti-establishment and politically questionable CND seems unconcerned about Britain's defences - except when trying to damage or destroy them.

It has been reported that a chemical bomb plot was uncovered recently in the UK by British and US intelligence agents, who 'listened in' to the bombers' communications.

The only listening station in the UK with such a capability is the one at Menwith Hill, which CND is once again planning to protest about.

It seems that Ms Harland's greatest concern is that if Menwith Hill employees had nothing better to do they could listen in to her private hone conversations as they listened to the bomb plotters.

This is true. That is why the station exists. But only those who are plotting against Britain and her allies need worry about it because British and US intelligence officials are not interested in the price of nappies.

So would Ms Harland care to explain once again just what she and CND are afraid of and what they are really up to.
