GREENMOUNT continued their fine start to the Bolton League season with two useful results at the weekend.

On Saturday they got the better of Egerton in a drawn game at Brandlesholme Road.

The game marked the debut of new professional Nishit Shetty and the Indian proved what a useful acquisition he will be with both bat and ball.

Batting first, the villagers ran up 188 from their 50 overs, thanks mainly to a fine innings of 51 from opener Andy Bowker, 45 from Shetty, 34 from John Ashworth and a studied, unbeaten 23 from youngster Ryan Senior.

That total proved too much for the Bolton side who were restricted to 162-8, despite a spirited 70 from Gary Garner.

Mark Stewart's 3-43 from 21 overs, was the pick of the bowling plaudits for Greenmount and he was ably assisted by Shetty who bagged 3-69 from 20 overs.

Twenty-four hours later Stewart's batting ability was to the fore, when Kearsley were given short shrift at Springfield Road.

The home side - boosted by South African professional Zander Debruyne's 95 - must have thought their total of 193 was a winning one.

Especially so as the villagers were teetering on 150-8.

However, they'd reckoned without Stewart, who took the game by the scruff of the neck and cracked a whirlwind unbeaten 51 in no time, to see his side home.
