STAN Ternent has broken his silence to insist he is looking for an instant return to football management.

The crestfallen Clarets boss admits that his final game in charge of Burnley, against boyhood heroes Sunderland this Sunday, will be an emotionally charged affair.

And Ternent, whose six years in charge at Turf Moor are drawing to a close after effectively being sacked earlier this week, has vowed to bounce straight back.

In his programme notes for Sunday's Turf Moor clash, he admits: "I can't promise to keep my emotions in check.

"For me at least, it's over. We've had some wonderful times together during the past six years and my players have all worked fantastically hard.

"Lately, our financial problems, which meant losing some of our best players, has made life tougher.

"Because of the budgets imposed on me, I stand by the claim that keeping us in the First Division this season has been my greatest achievement - SO FAR - in management.

"Many people have said this week that I am Burnley's most successful manager for 30 years and that has made me blush, and made me proud.

"Self-praise is no recommendation, but I am pleased to have brought back some credibility, some honour and some success to one of the most famous clubs in football.

"Now it's time to move on. I WILL work in football again and, after today, I have to make my future my priority. Thanks for everything."

Ternent's farewell seems certain to take place in front of Burnley's biggest crowd of the season as fans flock to pay their own personal tributes.

Over 16,000 tickets have already been sold for the all-ticket game, including 4,000 to Sunderland.

The Turf Moor ticket office will remain open all day tomorrow until 5pm for sales - and again right up until kick off at 1pm on Sunday..
