IN reply to Roy Martin (LET, April 14), Station Officer George Thomas worked all his fire service years at Blackburn, gaining promotion through the ranks.
The report in the Telegraph was correct but in addition it should have been made clear that Station Officer Thomas was the last surviving member of Blackburn Borough Fire Brigade who served the whole of his time at Blackburn.
Johnny Hinnigan did work at Blackburn between 1948-1974 but did not serve all of his service at Blackburn Borough. Mr Hinnigan started his fire service career at Blackburn but was not there very long, he then moved to Accrington, Nelson, Devon, Blackburn and finally to the Isle of Man as Chief Officer.
