I WONDERED if readders may be interested in a short resume of my activities on and around June 6, 1944.

5/6/44: Set sail late evening leading a flotilla of landing craft not knowing our destination. Before 11pm we were told that we were heading for Normandy -- Juno beach.

6/6/44: Arrived Juno at approximately 5am -- attended Holy Communion -- attack started shortly after 6am, with heavy bombardment from ships lying offshore. The assault troops were members of the French Canadian La Chassuer regiment, some of the toughest guys I have ever had the "pleasure" to meet.

7/6/44: After beach was scoured "we in the naval party" went ashore to set wireless operations on the beach in a German pillbox, similar to the one outside British Aerospace on the A59 at Samlesbury.

Living in tents, food was basically tinned but good, latrine trenches dug out of the earth and toilet seats were logs supported at each end, pity anyone that overbalanced.

After about 14 days we were able to move into a very nice large house in the village.

After about eight weeks when Caen was secured we returned to the UK.
