AN ORGAN open day is being held at a church in Todmorden today.
The instrument at St Michael's Church, in Cornholme, was installed in 1904 and church architect Hodgson Fowler designed its casing.
It is believed that it may be the first Conacher's designed with stopkey control and the organ adviser to the Diocese of Wakefield, Malcolm Cruise, ranks the organ among the best of its age.
An appeal was launched to raise the £68,000 needed to restore the organ and a grant of £50,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund St means the Church can now start restoration work.
For the open day organists have been invited to play before work begins and will be invited back when it has been finished. The event isfrom 10am to 4pm.
