AFTER beating Milnrow on the opening day of the season, Unsworth added the scalps of derby rivals Stand and then Royton to make it three wins out of three.

Unsworth entertained the Hamilton Road side and batting first, overseas amateur, JP Hean looked to continue his fine form and raced to his second half-century of the season off only 57 balls.

Skipper Paul Entwistle was content to sit in the shadows and was first to fall, going for 29 with the score on 115.

This brought paid man Robbie MacQueen to the crease, who together with Hean put on 33, before the latter was given out, caught behind off his pads going for a leg-side flick.

Another South African, former Heywood pro Alan Badenhorst (43no) then joined the run-fest, rapidly catching MacQueen up, who eventually fell for 47.

Graham Jones then hit nine in 12 balls before falling to Shah, with Paul Manley hitting two off the final ball to close the Unsworth innings on 238-4.

The pick of the Stand bowling was Shah, with 4-86 off 20 overs.

Stand's slow start to the season continued after the tea interval.

With the score on 31 without loss after eight overs, a bowling change by the the home side saw MacQueen introduced, resulting in the visitors slumping to 45-4 off 15 overs.

The wickets continued to fall as player after player went in but failed to build, MacQueen finishing with 3-50.

But the best bowling was served up by Badenhorst with 3-21 off 11 overs, as the visitors from mustered 177ao in reply. That most maligned of team members, Mr 'Extras,' was Stand's top scorer with 35.

Just 24 hours later Unsworth travelled to The Paddock to face Royton, and there was a eventful start to the game.

After Badenhorst bowled a wide off the first ball, opener Ward was sent packing to the pavilion, caught behind by Steve Barlow off the big South African's second ball, four deliveries later the home side were 1-1!

After a maiden over from Barry Hamilton, Badenhorst followed five dot balls by claiming Imam lbw, to leave Royton 1-2!

With Hamilton and Badenhorst (3-25) continuing with the onslaught Royton were clearly struggling, with just 6-2 off 10 overs.

A stand of 12 from Percy and Harding then helped the home side reach 45 without any further loss, that is before Hamilton (4-33) stepped up the pace, taking three wickets and MacQueen the other as it soon became 46-6.

Hulme's rearguard action, along with 25 extras bumped the score up to 103 before Royton ran out of wickets.

The 104 target never looked like testing the Unsworth order, once Hean had hit three fours off the first over. The only real question was how long it would take the visitors to claim victory.

Hean hit another 36 to just miss out on a third 50, falling to Hughes with Royton on 84.

MacQueen (18) then helped captain Entwistle (31) guide the Pole Lane outfit to the desired total without further loss.
