LIKE your correspondent, Mr Summersgill (LET, April 20), I too was quite unimpressed by your article re the new "Traffic Information" signs to be erected around Burnley.
Not only is the Lancashire County Council application for funds to implement this scheme further proof of the despotic attitude of said authority; but it beggars belief that this application follows fairly closely on their closure of care homes, mainly on economic grounds, not to mention other unnecessary projects.
Further than this, I suggest that the installation of such signs in the suggested situations will constitute a serious danger to motorists and possibly pedestrians.
How can a driver be expected to maintain his road concentration if he/she is distracted by a roadside illuminated sign?
Personally, I am against the suggested North-West Assembly, but when one considers the overall performance of the LCC, one really must wonder if it might be preferable after all.
R BRACEWELL (Mr), Ormerod Street, Worsthorne, Burnley.
