I THINK it's great that kids are to be taught road safety in a bid to keep them safer on the roads.

When I was a child, schools taught road safety as a matter of course and if that had continued over the years, kids would have more road sense than they have now.

You might think I'm exaggerating but I can assure you I'm not when I say that on an average day as a driving instructor we have to brake hard about 10 times to avoid kids who step out in front of us either without looking, or just for the fun of it because they know we will have to stop.

They don't seem to realise or care that occasionally the stupidity leads to kids being hurt when a driver may not stop in time.

Who always gets the blame? The driver of course.

I might also add that it's not always kids either who walk onto the road in front of us.

It's often adults as we had on Saturday after football had been on at Ewood including a policeman who stepped on to the road about three feet in front of us as we turned a corner.
