A BOOK written by women who have suffered the effects of alcohol abuse has scooped a major literary prize.
The women from the Willow Project in Leigh, which supports people who have been affected by drink related problems, are celebrating after winning the Towpath Press book competition.
The result was announced at this month's Leigh and Wigan Word Together Literature celebration at Wigan Pier.
The book, Beyond the Weeping, will be published by Towpath press and used by the Willow Project to raise awareness and reduce the stigma surrounding alcohol problems.
Project manager Jean State, said: "Many of the women had never put pen to paper before but they have produced and discovered creativity within themselves.
"Having the book published will further boost their confidence and self esteem."
