PETER Sleep sent Read on their way into the second round of the Castlemaine XXXX Ramsbottom Cup with an impressive half century.
Ribblesdale Wanderers were dismissed for 134 on a difficult wicket after heavy overnight rain, but Sleep scored 54 as the cup holders won by six wickets.
Barnoldswick beat Blackburn Northern by just 11 runs after their match went into a second day.
The Victory Park club's Sri Lankan professional Kalatunga scored 71 and Michael Scothern added 97 not out as they set a target of 216.
The game was evenly balanced with Northern on 93-3 when they adjourned and on Sunday they reached 205-9 with Ian Dowd on 83 not out.
Cherry Tree struggled at Settle where the home side scored 158 and Stuart Hornby took four wickets as the Blackburn club were dismissed for 108.
Lee Kearsley scored 41 as Whalley beat Padiham by 80 runs.
Baxenden professional Jonathan Harvey took six wickets for nine runs as Edenfield were shot out for 78 and followed up with 53 not out as his side won by nine wickets.
Oswaldtwistle and Earby had byes in the first round.
