THE new mayor of Padiham has taken office after a mayor making ceremony.
Optician Mark Jinkinson was elected as the third mayor of the town at Padiham Town Hall last night.
The 50-year-old, who was deputy mayor, will serve as mayor for 2004/5 after been elected by fellow town councillors.
Councillor Jinkinson told last night's council meeting he hoped to carry on the good work the council has done to improve the town.
He said: "Being a new council it has been a steep learning curve to where we are now.
"In my year of office I hope I will be able to pick up the baton and carry it with the same vigour as Bob Clark."
Coun Jinkinson, who owns Jinkinson Optometrists, in Burnley Road, will be supported by his wife Denise, who will be deputy mayor. They succeed Coun Clark and Hazel Rushton as first citizens.
