BARRY Kilby wants a new Burnley manager in place by the end of May.
And former Blackpool boss Steve McMahon today became the latest manager to put himself in the frame to succeed Stan Ternent.
McMahon is currently enjoying a sunshine break after severing all ties with the Seasiders last last week.
But speaking exclusively to the Lancashire Evening Telegraph, he insisted: "I would love the Burnley job.
"It would be perfect for me, absolutely perfect.
"Burnley needs a person to attract players and I think I can do that.
"Let me tell you, I would love the job, most definitely, and if I have half a chance I am desperate for that chance."
McMahon joins Brian Flynn, Colin Lee and Steve Cotterill in publicly declaring their interest in the vacant Turf Moor hot seat.
However, Clarets chairman Kilby is not short of other discreet applications to fit the profiles he has drawn up in seeking a new manager.
And he expects the process to speed up considerably in the coming week, with the aim of appointing a new man before the end of this month.
Kilby said: "There are different types you can go for, from up and coming managers to more established names and even coaching duos.
"The applications are starting to come in, although these days most interest is expressed through agents and recommendations, rather than CVs dropping on your mat.
"We want to see what standard we get in and then we will be looking at drawing up a shortlist ahead of interviews.
"But ideally, I want to see someone in place by the end of May. Agents have already been on the phone and the dust is still settling on what has happened, but we will be looking for the board to approve a shortlist as soon as possible."
Meanwhile, Ternent cleared his desk yesterday to officially end his eventful six-year reign.
And it has now emerged that the toppled Burnley boss earned the cash-strapped Clarets a timely £75,000 boost by insisting on a clause in the deal that took Arthur Gnohere to QPR in February.
Kilby said: "The £75,000 bonus was negotiated by Stan if Rangers ended up winning promotion to Division One after signing Arthur.
"It is certainly a nice bonus for us and there is also the provision for another £75,000 if Rangers stay in Division One next season, so the move could turn out to be very beneficial to Burnley Football Club."
DELE Adebola undergoes surgery today for a double hernia diagnosed towards the end of the Coventry striker's loan spell at Turf Moor.
GLEN Little will undergo a medical at Reading on Thursday before becoming their first summer signing.
The Clarets winger has already verbally agreed a new three-year deal with the Royals, who have finally confirmed the news we first broke eight days ago.
