RAMSBOTTOM FC boss Vince Overson has ruled himself out of the chase for the Burnley manager's job, made vacant by the sacking of Stan Ternent last week!
The 42-year-old former Clarets' defender, who played 252 games for the Turf Moor club, preferred instead to concentrate on adding to his Riverside squad after being laid low by a chest infection.
Having agreed pre-season friendlies with Bury and hopefully Burnley for late July, he is now focusing his attention on recruitment.
He is in negotiation with three players in particular with a view to adding them to his current squad.
And he has received positive responses from the majority of the players who figured last season.
One notable exception is forward Dave Gardiner.
"Dave didn't get a regular place last season," explained Overson.
"He's passed his 'B' coaching licence so he's going out to America to coach.
"The atmosphere within the changing room was really good and I'd like to think the rest of the squad would want to stay.
"For example, Lee Buggie just said 'give me a ring Vince, I'm not going anywhere,' so things are looking good for next season."
The club's end-of-season dinner saw several awards handed out. Midfielder Iain Dyson was voted Player of the Year; skipper Matt Raywood won Players' Player of the Year; and leading goalscorer Matt Swailes won Clubman of the Year.
The club lost its Bolton Hospital Cup semi-final 6-0 to Eagley.
