BLACKBURN Rovers midfielder Jonathon Douglas will make a decision regarding his future in the next 24 hours.

The Republic of Ireland international met his agent yesterday to discuss the club's latest contract offer.

And Graeme Souness is hoping for an answer by this time tomorrow as he begins to formulate his plans for next season.

Douglas's current contract is due to expire this summer but Rovers are believed to have offered him a brand new four year deal as a reward for his recent performances in the Premiership.

The 22-year-old former Academy starlet has already publicly stated he would like to stay at Rovers but he's thought to be concerned about losing his place in the side once Barry Ferguson and David Thompson return from injury, which is why he has stalled over making a decision so far.

In the meantime, Graeme Souness's summer transfer budget was set to be one of the main topics up for discussion at a board meeting today.

Souness has yet to be told how much he will have to spend but he has already informed the club that he wants four new players in place for next season, with the priorities being a central defender, a striker and two midfielders.

A final figure will not be decided until Rovers know their final league position as a victory over Birmingham on Saturday could be worth an extra £1 million.

Nevertheless, Souness has already started running the rule over a number of possible targets with next season in mind.

He recently flew to Oslo to watch a couple of players in action in the international friendly between Norway and Russia.

Tromso's left-sided midfielder Morten Pedersen was one of the main players under scrutiny.

And I can reveal that Souness was back in Norway again today to have another look at a couple of potential signings.

Meanwhile, Rovers have yet to receive any firm offers for their transfer-listed defender, Andy Todd.

Coventry, Leicester and Wigan have all been linked with the former Charlton and Bolton Wanderers star but none of those clubs have made their interest official.

If a bid did come in then Rovers would want their money back for the 29-year-old, who was arguably the player of the year until his fall out with Graeme Souness.

Rovers stumped up an initial fee of £750,000 for Todd two years ago but they have since paid two further instalments of £125,000 to Charlton, which means any would-be suitors would have to offer close to £1 million to get their man.
