A SPECIALIST clinic treating patients with leg ulcers has been labelled a success.
The clinic, in the new Darwen Annexe opposite the current health centre, was set up by district nurses in response to concerns from the public about lack of facilities.
Staff nurse Elaine Maynard said: "Darwen patients with leg ulcers were receiving a fragmented and inconsistent service, and the standard and provision of care was inadequate.
"Darwen Health Centre did not have a suitable clinical area in which to provide specialised treatment - fortunately better facilities became available when the newly refurbished annexe opened.
The leg ulcer clinic now runs every Tuesday afternoon, and each week up to 10 patients are seen and treated, including the assessment of new patients and support to patients with healed ulcers.
