Reading your article "Saucy undies poster ripped" (Asian Image, Apr. 2004, p.7) I sympathised with the feelings felt of others who are upset by the exploitation of the sex appeal of young people.
As a Christian I am also aware of the tensions of living in a society which includes many who do not share my values. I would not want my daughter modeling for these pictures and the use of sex for marketing, whilst old, seems ever more "in my face".
Advertisements for Trojan condoms on bus shelters is perhaps the latest manifestation.
But it is not just outside places of worship that these posters are to be found. I remember those gorgeous young women's legs on the back of the bus and a naked spreadeagled woman opposite the school I taught at.
However, we should also recognise that people will disagree over boundaries- fully veiled women or an aluring lace scarf, worn with jewelery, make-up and a charming smile both cover the heads of girls in Longsight and we should be wary of hypocrisy.
And I'm sure that posters and pictures of film stars with "designer stubble" and unbuttoned shirts appeal to females and not just because the subject hasn't got up early enough.
And how many of us do not feel enjoyment of this beauty, albeit with guilty feelings?
Readers of your paper should be reminded that they are not alone in being offended and people in many faith communities have more in common than our secular culture believes.
It seems to me that if the Sloggi advert only raised a couple of protests many of us should feel guilty at our apathy which we cannot be proud of. If we don't want it we should stop it.
