GOLBORNE CC failed to get past the first hurdle in the Cross Cup, beaten by two wickets by Edgworth.
The game started badly for Golborne with professional Shah being caught for 0. Cook soon followed bowled for 3 with the score on 20.
This brought together opener Tyrer and Marston, and with some sensible batting against some tight bowling, started to control the game. The partnership put on 70, when Marston was caught at mid-off for 28.
Tyrer soon followed for an excellent 48 and two more wickets fell to leave Golborne at 96 for 6. Seddon and Ashmead put on a useful 20, but the tail
fell to Locke who finished with 5 for 11, Golborne finishing on 122 all out.
Edgworth started slowly against some tight bowling from Shah and Greenwood, but didn't lose any early wickets.
Edgworth then upped the pace to take the score to 70 before Birch was caught and bowled by Tyrer. Sydall soon followed, well caught at slip by Brunt off Tyrer and Mickey Davis fell with score on 90 for a well deserved 43.
The return of Shah and Greenwood triggered a collapse that saw Edgworth slump to 112 for 8 but Edgworth managed to scrape home finishing on 126 for 8. Shah finishing with 1 for 7 from his ten overs and Tyrer taking 3 wickets.
Golborne 2nd XI were knocked out of the Isherwood Cup on Sunday after being comfortably beaten away at Edgworth.
Following a washout on Saturday against Adlington, an inexperienced Golborne side lost by eight wickets in a lacklustre performance.
Batting first, Golborne soon found themselves two wickets down as Mercer (1) and Makinson (8) departed with the score at that stage on 13 for 2.
Dando and Urbani occupied the crease for a period of time until Dando skied one and was caught for 12.
Debutant Oakland and Lyon made 2 and 11 respectively while Urbani flashed the willow before eventually being bowled for 48. Four more wickets tumbled quickly and Golborne were eventually all bowled out for a mediocre 102 runs.
In reply, Edgworth made slow but steady progress chasing victory. Openers Thornton and Mather put on a stand of 38 until the veteran Ormshaw claimed the wicket of Thornton who was stumped for 21. Mather soon followed as he also fell victim to Ormshaw, caught at mid-off by Makinson for seven. It was left to Simpson and Fletcher to see the hosts home as they eventually reached the victory target off 42 overs.
