PAUL WELLER is ready to accept his Burnley career is over after seeing his contract hopes suffer a blow.
Weller is one of four established first team stars yesterday told they would not be offered new deals until a new manager is appointed.
That decision by the Burnley board leaves the long-serving midfielder, along with defenders David May, Mark McGregor and Dean West, all facing an uncertain future.
And Weller today insisted he felt let down after dedicating over a decade to the Clarets cause.
The 29-year-old said: "I know the club is in a tricky position, but we can't just sit around waiting for them because this is about our futures.
"I thought they would all give us a short-term deal to be honest, but after this you just feel you are not wanted any longer and I don't want to stay if that's the case.
"At the moment I no longer feel part of it and from a purely selfish point of view I have to think about myself.
"We still have to sort out a future in the game and if Burnley Football Club cannot do that, then we have to.
"Obviously we are all left in limbo. I've spoken to the other lads who are out of contract and we are all in exactly the same boat.
"All we can do is return our forms to the PFA, saying we have not been offered contracts and our names will then be circulated to other clubs."
Weller, who played against Sunderland last Sunday as close friend Glen Little and manager Stan Ternent were given a rousing Turf Moor send off before leaving the club, added: "I have never been in this situation before.
"Right now I just feel like the gaffer and Glen got the chance to say goodbye and we won't.
"I'm not going to go begging for a contract though and if Burnley want me, they know where I am."
Kilby insists he had little option but to put contract talks on hold with the quartet until Stan Ternent's successor is appointed.
And he remains hopeful that Weller's long service and dedication to the club can still be rewarded with a testimonial, after it emerged yesterday that Ternent has been granted his own fund-raiser.
Meanwhile, after discussions with the club it has now been established that one-year deals have been made to Joel Pilkington and Matt O'Neill, while Paul Scott has been offered professional terms after completing his scholarship.
