A WOMAN is being re-housed after her flat was flooded in a freak thunderstorm while the roof was being replaced.
Water cascaded into the living room and bedroom of Mrs Janet Brundrett's top-floor council-owned flat, knocking out the electrics and ruining possessions.
The roof of her flat in Kilburn Road, Radcliffe, had been stripped of tiles when the thunderstorm struck on Monday afternoon.
Mrs Brundrett (51), who has lived in the two-bedroom flat for the past year, said: "Workmen were actually on the roof at the time. There was a huge downpour and everything in my living room and bedroom was covered in water, including all the carpets. Everything was wet through and I had no electricity".
Mrs Brundrett's daughter, Janet, and her week-old baby, Kia, who were also living in the flat, are now staying with friends.
She added: "All this happened when the roof was being re-slated. The work was going to take five to six weeks. Now, on top of that, it will take three weeks to re-decorate my home after the flood."
Mrs Brundrett has praised the contractors for their response to the flooding. "They've been absolutely brilliant," she said.
She is being forced to leave her home for the next few weeks until the roofing repairs and re-decoration are complete.
