A FORMER Labour councillor, Connie Fitzgerald, was remembered with a minute's silence at Wednesday's council meeting.
Mrs Fitzgerald, who died in Fairfield Hospital last month aged 72, had represented Redvales ward for 12 years and was Mayor of Bury in 1998/99.
The current Mayor, Coun Wilf Davison, said: "Councillor Fitzgerald's service as a local councillor and also as mayor was exemplary.
"She gave selflessly of her time and effort and was held in the highest possible esteem and regard.
"She will be remembered with fond affection by all who knew her and she will be most sadly missed."
MEMBERS also stood in silence in tribute to Mr Jason Denning, the council's senior educational psychologist, who died recently.
The mayor said that, although he had only worked for the council for a short time, he had displayed great loyalty to the council and all that the borough upholds.
