PUPILS, residents and the headteacher of a village high school donned their waterproofs to give a nature trail a spring clean.

They turned out on Saturday in dismal weather to pick up litter on the Kirklees Trail in Tottington as part of a community clean-up and fun day event.

It was organised by Bury Council's countryside rangers team and Ramsbottom and Tottington area co-ordinator Kim Griffiths.

They were joined by 25 pupils from Tottington High School and its headteacher Mr Alan Scott, as well as local residents.

Kim said: "The volunteers worked extremely hard, and had a fun time.

"Saturday's activities follows on from work done by 7th Ramsbottom (Greenmount) Scouts, Cubs and Beavers during their environmental awareness week a couple of weeks ago when they helped to clean up the Greenmount area and part of the Kirklees Trail."

She added: "Thanks must be extended to Greenmount Wildlife Hospital, Groundwork, the countryside rangers and to the Co-op Late Shop in Tottington who donated refreshments for the volunteers.

"But most of all thanks to everyone who has helped to clean up the area."

The council's deep clean team will soon be visiting Tottington and any grot spots should be reported to Kim on 01204880457.
