A VILLAGE Scout group is on the verge of folding after 30 years because of a lack of leaders.
So desperate is the situation at the 9th St Philip's Scout Group, Stubbins, that students on the Duke of Edinburgh scheme are being asked to help out.
The unit is made up of 35 boys spread across the three sections: Beavers, Cubs and Scouts.
There is no leader for the Beavers and the group Scout leader, Keith Lofthouse, is having to run their meetings along with the Cubs, relying on help from students on the Duke Edinburgh scheme.
Lofthouse said: "We desperately need help. If we cannot find helpers and people willing to commit to the group as leaders, the group cannot continue.
"A Scout leader is also soon to finish due to other commitments but will continue to support anyone who comes forward to help.
"This would mean the end of Stubbins and Edenfield's Scout group after more than 30 years and the loss of a valuable source of interest for the local kids."
He added: "As a Scout leader you get involved in all sorts of activities and weekend camps, including canoeing and climbing if you want to.
"We would urge people to help this small but active group. You don't have to be young, just have a desire to help and the ability to relate to youngsters. Working with youth helps to regain your youth."
Anyone who can help should ring 01706 82 4334.
