CHEEKY Birmingham City supporters are planning a hot reception for Peter Enckelman when he runs out at Ewood Park tomorrow.
Around 4,000 Blues fans are expected for the game against Blackburn Rovers and they have organised a special poster campaign to show their 'affection' for the former Aston Villa keeper.
Posters proclaiming 'We love Enckelman' - complete with a picture of the keeper mocked up as a clown - are to be handed out to away fans as they make their way towards the Darwen End tomorrow.
It all stems back to the mistake Enckelman made in a Midlands derby between Birmingham and Aston Villa last season when the Finnish international allowed a throw-in to slip under his foot for a calamitous own goal.
Villa went on to lose that game 3-0 and gloating City fans will never forget Enckelman's famous error.
Looking back to that incident, the Finnish international said: "It wasn't good for the first week, but I started laughing about it a week later.
"It was one of those things and I will probably have a laugh and a joke about it with the Blues fans tomorrow.
"It's going to be good fun, and hopefully the Blackburn fans won't be wondering why they are singing my name. But if you take it badly, you have no place in football.
"They want to shake my hand and take the mickey but it's always good-hearted.
"It was just one of those things and I have to get on with it. I made a mistake.
"I hope I don't make as bad a one again, although I'm sure I will do. Goalkeepers make mistakes."
Although Enckelman can now smile about the error, he admits it probably influenced David O'Leary's view of him and ultimately cost him his place as Villa's first choice keeper.
"I'm sure that influenced the manager. It would influence anybody," said Enckelman. "Football is a funny business. I have seen bigger players than me go from hero to zero in the manager's eyes.
"It's part and parcel of football. Sometimes you are in the favourite position, sometimes you aren't. But football is a game of opinions and when someone has an opinion, it's very hard to change that."
