FOLLOWING the publicity regarding the Elms site in Whitefield, I wrote to Sir Terry Leahy at Tesco informing him that consumers are interested in choice.
And choice is not what the consumer would get if there was a Tesco supermarket on every corner.
I received a reply from Shaun Edgeley, property communications manager, who said that Tesco had not applied for planning permission for a store in Whitefield and also that "Tesco has no contractual agreement with David McLean Homes Ltd to build a new store should planning permission be granted".
If what Tesco say is true, I suspect that David McLean Homes intends using all the land for new homes.
