BLUNDERING workmen have left a mother and her three children living in a "tip" after accidentally knocking holes in the living room wall.
Council contractors have been working on Georgina Conway's home in Connaught Avenue, Whitefield, since before Christmas.
After a number of problems, the final straw came when builders pointing the brickwork in her coalhouse knocked through into the living room, making two holes in the wall.
The house has been in a mess for two weeks and Miss Conway was told someone would call on Monday to fix the wall. However, Bury Council telephoned on Monday (May 10) to say the job could not be done that day due to sickness.
She said: "They have left me in a mess. My house is all upside down because I moved the furniture, thinking they were coming and with three children it is difficult."
A spokesman for Bury Council said Miss Conway had not been co-operative with staff. "We really have bent over backwards to help in this case but Miss Conway has not given us the chance to make a repair, which we have only agreed to do out of goodwill because we are in dispute with Miss Conway about the cause of the holes in the plasterwork. We can only provide a good service if tenants are willing to work with us."
