A MUf-two has appealed to a council to clean up a "filthy" skate park opened just weeks ago.
Plans for Great Harwood Skate Park, on the corner of Game Street and Town Hall Street, were in the pipeline for years before being given the green light.
But less than a month after its opening, one mother has complained that the facility is covered in litter, and there are not even any warning signs to ask youngsters to keep dogs away.
The council have revealed they are to review the cleaning of the area.
Jennifer Hazlehurst, a childminder of Altham, has two young sons, Jordan, eight, and five-year-old Callum, who both like to rollerblade.
She said: "It's absolutely disgraceful. It's not been open that long and I thought I would take my two sons down, but the rubbish was just all over. It was just absolutely littered with it.
"It wasn't just children's rubbish like crisp packets and sweets, but takeaway cartons and pizza boxes, and bottles."
The skate park, which cost £120,000, was officially opened by the Mayor of Hyndburn, and hailed as a new meeting place for youngsters.
Local children were even given input by the council into how the finished park should look.
But Mrs Hazlehurst, of the Sefton Farm estate, said when she took her children to play at the park they had to leave early because of the mess.
She said: "They were quite upset because we didn't let them stay too long. With it being so recent that it was put in I was expecting it to be very clean and tidy but that wasn't the case.
"I would like to see it cleaned up. I think if they're going to make an effort to have an area there there would be some kind of effort made to keep it tidy."
Councillor Peter Clarke, Overton representative, said there was a problem at the skate park, and some of the work to solve it needed to be done by the youngsters who use it.
He said: "The council cleaned it up on Wednesday and by 7pm there was glass, paper, and bottles all over the place. The council will clean it up but the kids have got to take ownership."
A spokesman for Hyndburn Borough Council said: "The skate park area is cleaned twice weekly and we are reviewing the frequency of cleaning in that area. Litter issues will also be one of the subjects of the next Great Harwood Area Council meeting in August."
