I AM asking readers to support the Mobilise campaign which is fighting to end the injustice of age discrimination in disability benefits.
The campaign has the support of organisations including Help the Aged, Disability Alliance, Royal National Institute for the Blind, Spinal Injuries Association, TUC and Age Concern. They are working to change the rules that currently mean that people who become disabled at or after the age of 65 cannot get help with mobility or low level care. Whilst younger disabled people get Disabled Living Allowance, older disabled people get the much more limited Attendance Allowance. How can it be right to deny people help simply because of their age?
Readers should write to their MP and ask them to sign the Mobilise Early Day Motion, number 953, or can log on to www.helptheaged.org.uk/campaigns to send an email in support. Please act now to stand up for the rights of older disabled people and to fight ageism.
P. KAISERMAN,
Bury Pensioners Association
