HUNDREDS of local residents in the area of Sheepfoot Lane and St Margaret's Road, Prestwich, were against Manchester City Council's plans for the additional car parks in Heaton Park.
Also, the installation of a traffic barrier and the widening of the entrance on St Margaret's Road.
Although our local councillors and MP were in support of the residents, Manchester City Council has not changed from its original plans, and the work has been carried out.
As a result, traffic from Manchester's side of Heaton Park has been transferred onto the roads in Prestwich.
St Margaret's Road is now the main traffic entrance into the park for visitors and the council contractors and suppliers. In addition, it is the main traffic entrance used by United Utilities, since the increase in the size of their Heaton Park water treatment plant, and the main traffic entrance for British Telecom for their tower.
As our local councillors supported the residents, who then from Bury Council has agreed to these plans, against the wishes of local residents and to the detriment of Prestwich?
ERIC T. DUNN,
St Margaret's Road,
Prestwich.
