LAST weekend wasn't a good one for Bury-Pedalsport.
A disastrous visit to Stoke on Saturday produced almost a non-event, as an already depleted squad through injuries and work commitments suffered two heavy defeats and even worse, two more injured riders.
The four man second team lost 80-48, Steve Mann 11, Ashley Simpson 9, Chris Parrish 8, Will Collins 4.
The first team faired no better as the home team ran riot winning 118-56.
John Whiting crashed heavily in his first ride and although taking second place in the re-start, could take no further part in the meeting. Steve Mann also took a bad fall and will be a doubtful starter for this weekend, only Fred Rothwell and Neil Howarth were able to offer any resistance in a one sided match.
Fred Rothwell 13, Neil Howarth 11, Steve Mann 9+1, Chris Parrish 8, Ashley Simpson 6, Will Collins 6, John Whiting 3 (one ride only).
Sunday's Northern Alliance Cup finals produced a great meeting, but no luck for the Bury riders.
The Juniors couldn't match a strong Sheffield side in their semi final losing 64-85.
Several home riders struggled to stay upright on the slippery surface and there were several fallers, particularly in the early heats. Tom Doyle 16, Scott Jarman 11=2, Chris Parrish 9, Ben Scranage 8, Michael Parrish 8, Ashley Simpson 8, Will Collins 2, David Parrish 2.
The six team senior cup competition found Bury's foursome below strength and although they took a creditable third place overall, they were never able to mount a real challenge for top slot and third place medals were a disappointment.
Tameside retained the trophy, they won last year with 53pts, ahead of Astley & Tyldesley 48, Bury 38, Hull 35, Heckmondwike 33 and Sheffield 26.
Sheffield did get some consolation, winning the Junior cup against Astley & Tyldesley who had beaten Hull in their semi final.
Bury's scorers in the senior were, Paul Dyson 11, Ben Scranage 9, Scott Jarman 9, Neil Howarth 8, Tom Doyle (reserve, one race) 1.
Bury face another tough away trip on Sunday, when they visit Leicester.
The previous day, Saturday, some of the youngsters will travel to Coventry for the third round in the British Youth and Junior league.
The next match at Goshen is a Northern League encounter, when Heckondwike come to Bury next Thursday, 7.30pm.
A ladies watch was found on Sunday in the grass adjacent to the track at Goshen.
Anyone who has lost it, please telephone Tony Mann on 0161-705-2378 and describe the watch to claim it.
Bad week all round
