JON Kennedy has revealed he wants to stay at Accrington Stanley - but only if the price is right.
The goalkeeper was planning to show his commitment to the club by moving from his Yorkshire home to the north west.
But he admitted he needed to iron out financial matters before agreeing new terms.
"It's important for me to stay at Stanley because it's important you stay at a club where you are going to learn things," the former Sunderland stopper said.
"I think that even if we have a goalkeeping coach in just once a week then I will learn a lot and develop.
"I had a figure in my head of how much I would need to get a house and live in the area. But with what I was offered I couldn't afford to live with my parents and travel.
"It's not as if I want to get as much out of the club as I can. I just want to be able to do my best in training and not have to worry about all the travelling."
Kennedy, who hopes to return to full-time football after signing for Stanley following his release from the Black Cats last summer, added: "It's not a bad situation, it's an amicable discussion. We're not holding each other to ransom.
"Hopefully we'll sort something out soon because I want to stay at Stanley. All the right steps are being taken both on and off the pitch."
And Kennedy paid tribute to former team-mate Jamie Speare, who was transfer listed after contract talks broke down.
"Jamie was the most supportive keeper I've ever played alongside," he said.
"Out of all the players who I expected to stay at the club he was the one because of his service to Accrington. I was surprised and gutted for him."
STANLEY stage their end of season presentation night tomorrow at 7.30pm. Admission is £2.
