I THINK that the market traders opposed to it move have got hold of the wrong end of the stick.
Westfield owns all that area. Westfield have made a decision. The traders should get themselves some Westfield shares if they want a say.
As far as the council's agreement to the Westfield plan "in principle" is concerned, I assume it went through planning, which is apolitical, so there is no political party that can "take the rap". The councillors on planning probably thought it would be nice having a cinema in Bury again, and I am certainly looking forward to that.
If the market trader candidates succeed in winning places on the council, I don't think it would have any effect on Westfield, but it would mean that we had a bunch of single-issue councillors whose prime interest would be in their market stalls rather than the concerns of the electorate.
